Tauranga City's water consumption is rising towards what we call a 'high usage level'. Please remember that the city's water supply is not endless.

How you can help:

  • Fix any leaks on your property immediately - call your plumber for repairs or our free Waterline Advisory Service for advice
  • Water the garden early morning or late evening to minimise evaporation and prevent foliage burning
  • Use a hose instead of a sprinkler where possible
  • Avoid hosing hard surfaces (paths, driveways, floors and buildings) as much as possible
  • Avoid over watering - it's bad for plants and water levels.

Thanks

More info

Water consumption is monitored daily. This involves checking:

  • the daily bulk water consumption
  • the recovery of reservoir levels in the City
  • the average 7 day water usage

The latter gives a good high use indicator showing use patterns and prevents over reaction to specific demands over a short period of time.

Based on the current treatment plant capacities we have adopted a “high usage - 7 day average trigger” of more than 45 Ml/d (45,000 m3/d).

During the current year (January 2009) our 7 day average bulk consumptions have been consistently below this figure, due to more rain rainfall this January (42mm) compared with January 2008 (19mm).
