Sulpher Point & Marine Park
This walkway will suit people interested in boat
watching and water activities. Enjoy spectacular views of the harbour entrance,
harbour and Pilot
Bay.
WALKING TIME
Walking
time: 20 minutes one way This
walk is accessed from the Dive
Crescent roundabout by driving onto Mirrielees Road
and turning into Cross Road.
Recreational
boating is a major activity in Tauranga and Marine Park
is seen as a key small boat launching site. The provision of quality boat
servicing facilities in close proximity to launching ramps has encouraged
locals to use this area.
Generous
parking for boat trailers and a floating pontoon add to the area's popularity giving
onlookers an interesting view of the variety of fishing boats and fish that can
be caught.
At
the top end of Sulphur Point is one of Tauranga's marinas, which shows an array
of large powerboats and yachts. The yachting and boating clubs have their premises
here and onlookers can watch their regattas and races. There is a BBQ at
Sulphur Point.
Cycling
is a popular activity around this area. A BMX track is located in Marine Park
and caters for BMX enthusiasts.
