Make 2009 your best year ever!From the desk of John Richardson at Fitco
No doubt the resolutions have been made and now the trick is to follow through and make something of them. Yes there will be those who opt for the latest kooky fad, seduced by a savvy marketing campaign. And then there will be those who take a common sense approach and get themselves active, focusing on
- Increasing their activity levels, balanced with a...
- better approach to nutrition and eating.
The latter group realise these are no shortcuts to anything worthwhile, they get in, make the effort, and ultimately reap the sustainable results. What I can assure you is that "pain of committing to an exercise program", is much less than "the pain of sitting on the fence", and beating yourself up for not doing anything!! Make 2009 your best year ever!This statement flys in the face of everything that the media is reporting at the moment. Make 2009 an opportunity to refocus and determine what is really important. Go back to the fundamentals. What I'm referring to is your mental and physical health. (In the bigger scheme, toys and assets are meaningless.) Our challenge to you is to place your health (along with family and friends) squarely at the top of your priority list.
Fit Tip - Make Time
Consistency is critical to the success of any exercise program. Consistency allows you to realise those benefits that come with being physically active. Every one has their own struggles to make it in here (Fitco), and we are constantly amazed at how hectic some people's lives are, yet they still prioritise their exercise and get to Fitco regularly. These members say that it is the exercice that allows them to continue at pace. It energises them, provides an outlet from stress, is an opportunity to unwind, and importantly keeps the body and mind at peak performance so that they can continue speeding along!

How to achieve those "to die for thighs and legs"Patience and perseverance firstly, and secondly a basic understanding of the following;
The thighs are made up of several major body muscle groups, so you need to be working these muscles together. They include;
- The hamstrings - located on the back of thighs
- The adductor or inner thigh muscle
- The quadriceps, which form the front thigh
- and...the hip flexors, positioned on the front of the pelvis
Pick up a copy of an exercise program covering these muscle groups including tips and easy to follow diagrams to show you how to achieve great legs. Available at Fitco reception.
Nutrition TipEat breakfast...it's not negotiable! Let us tell you why...We know what fasting does to your body.
Your metabolism slows down, your brain slows down. Your body's ability to burn fat slows down and you feel lousy. Fasting gives you smelly breath too (we thought we'd just add in this delightful little side effect).
Regular small meals every 3-4 hours will provide your body with continuous energy whilst constantly boosting your metabolism through a process called thermogenisis. yes when you eat food you are speeding up your metabolism. If preparing these small meals seems too much effort, consider protein bars.
A nutritious breakfast gets you fuelled for the day and importantly prevents you from bingeing later in the day.
Make sure you get the basics right and you will see the results.
