Team 13 Hydroplane Racing
Boat racing has been a serious family pastime for the Mathieson family
since 1955 when Terry’s father Joe bought his first powerboat. From
this day on boat racing has been in the Mathieson blood.
In 2001 Terry and his son Brody purchased a burnt out shell, and
proceeded to undertake a major rebuild. This was launched in 2004 and
named Meridian. Terry's brother Steve has also continued the family
legacy with running his own hydroplane boat named (Midnight) after his
fathers first boat.
Team
13 racing came about when Terry, Brody and Steve decided to have a
common theme with the boats. Both Meridian and Midnight are painted the
same colour, are of similar style and have similar numbers – 113 and 13.
Team
13 premier event on the 2008 / 09 calendar was the Inaugural event
being held on the 17th - 18th January 2009 on the section of Tauranga
Harbour in front of the Strand. The event is part of the 2009 World
Grand Prix Hydroplane Champs. This event has attracted 8 professional
international teams plus 50 national teams.
