In the west from Northland to Taranaki, including the Coromandel Peninsula: Scattered showers, becoming isolated this evening.
Bay of Plenty, Gisborne, Hawkes Bay, also Horowhenua and Kapiti Coast: Mainly fine, but a few showers possible about coastal Hawkes Bay later today.
Wanganui, Taihape and Manawatu: Fine spells, but a few showers north of Palmerston North.
Wellington and Wairarapa: A few showers developing this morning, retreating to the Wairarapa coast in the afternoon.
Buller and Westland: Showers, clearing from the south during the day.
Nelson, Marlborough and Canterbury: Fine, apart from showers about Banks Peninsula with snow to 400 metres later today.
Otago, Southland and Fiordland: Scattered showers, with some hail in east, easing this evening. Snow to 400 metres. Southwest gales, gusting 100 km/h about the coast.
Chatham Islands: Showers developing this morning, some heavy with hail.

A strong southwest flow over New Zealand weakens on Saturday as a narrow ridge moves onto the country from the Tasman Sea. A trough crosses the South Island on Sunday and the North Island on Monday, followed by another ridge.
