TEAM LOCAL REPORT MAY 2009

From the President - Tauranga Master Builders' Association

Hello all,

Well another quarter flies on by.

The 2009 Registered Master Builders Federation conference was hosted by the Nelson and Blenheim Associations and the venue was United Clubs in Blenheim. I felt this was a great example of a smaller region spreading accommodation across many places successfully.

The conference venue was excellent and the turn out fantastic. Four members from Tauranga and myself attended the conference. There is a wealth of knowledge that is passed around by experienced members from throughout NZ. Most of these people are happy to share their experiences. The Napier conference next year will no doubt have a great family aspect and a good time guaranteed.

Some of the guest speakers at the conference were Tarewa Nikau, Janet McDonald. Phillip Leashman Adversity and personal challenges from these speakers projected one common theme - ATTITUDE. Pick one – positive or positive…Then drive it forward because enthusiasm is infectious.

The RMB 2009 Apprentice of the Year in association with Carters competition is up and running and entry forms are available from the Association Office. Closing date is 31 July 2009. With this event growing in stature each year there are more and more reasons to be involved. Ask any members from the previous event and what the value is to our apprentices and business owners. It is a great chance to showcase the best young people in our industry. Your apprentice could win the National Apprentice of the Year prize - a trip for two to a trade show and associated travel package valued at $3,000 plus a Carters Future Development Grant valued at $5,000. The awards night will be held on Friday 2 October 2009 at Sebel Trinity.

The 2009 RMB House of the Year is well underway with good solid entries and excellent support from our industry partners with table sponsorship over 20 at this stage.
